This Statue of Liberty Half Dollar was struck by the U.S. Mint in 1986! The coin was issued to commemorate the statue’s 100th Anniversary. The obverse shows
the Statue of Liberty. The reverse features an immigrant family arriving
in New York. This was a limited
edition coin made only in 1986. Richly
layered in 24-karat gold by a private mint. Just a tiny fraction of all Statue of Liberty Half Dollars were set aside for this Special Edition.
The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. It was given to the
United States as a gift from the people of France to celebrate American
liberty and freedom. The framework of
the statue was built by Gustave Eiffel, who also built the Eiffel Tower in
Paris. The statue was dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on October 28, 1886. Today, the Statue
of Liberty is the world’s greatest symbol of freedom. This coin is
.750 copper and .250 nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. The coin is delivered in custom coin wallet with historical information about the coin and the Statue of Liberty, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity. |
