This collection contains the three Bicentennial Coins and the golden hologram $2 Bill!

As part of the historic celebrations in 1976 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Mint struck three special one-time-only circulating commemorative coins.  They were the first commemorative coins issued for circulation, and this collection brings together all three of these rarely seen coins: Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Eisenhower Dollar.

Each coin features the dual date “1776-1976” on the obverse, below the portrait.  They are the first dual-dated coins in each of the respective coin series.  Also included is a U.S. $2 bill that features “The Signing of the Declaration of Independence” on the back and which is enhanced with a stunning golden hologram.

Together, these four items create a remarkable tribute to American independence.

The complete collection of all three bicentennial coins and the golden hologram $2 bill is displayed in a custom wallet and

Presented in a small velour metal box and a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Washington Quarter was first issued in 1932 to honor the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth.  Washington was one of America’s greatest patriots and is renowned as the “Father of our Nation.”  In addition to leading America’s fight against the British in the American Revolution, he was also instrumental in creating the Constitution and served as America’s first President.

The original Washington Quarters were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints – and featured the respective Mint Marks of each Mint – until 1964.  In 1965, the U.S. Mint made dramatic changes.  First, the composition of the Washington Quarter changed from .900 silver to copper-nickel due to the rising price of silver bullion.  And second, even though the coins were still made at all three Mints, no coins were made with Mint Marks in 1965, 1966, and 1967.

This collection includes one of each of the 1965, 1966, and 1967 Washington Quarters – the first three years of the copper-nickel coin and the only three years that no Washington Quarters were made with Mint Marks.  Previously, only those coins from the Philadelphia Mint were struck with no Mint Marks … but it is impossible to tell which 1965, 1966, and 1967 Washington Quarters were made at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints because none has a Mint Mark and they all look alike.

Mint Marks returned to Washington Quarters in 1968, so this is a unique collection that features coins from a long-gone era.  The coins were struck up to 40 years ago, and most have been worn out or damaged in circulation – but the coins in this collection have been specially selected for their superior collector quality.

The complete three-coin set is featured in a custom display wallet and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Last Three Walking Liberty

Silver Half Dollars were once part of American coinage – but silver coins disappeared generations ago, and circulating Half Dollars are now a long-forgotten memory. This unique collection features one Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar from each of the last three years of issue, 1945-1947.

The Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar was first minted in 1916. It is considered one of America’s most beautiful coins. The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wrapped in a U.S. flag and walking towards the rising sun. The reverse shows a magnificent eagle with its wings stretched.

This was America Half Dollar from World War I through the “Roaring Twenties,” the Great Depression, and World War II. Each coin was struck in the beauty of .900 fine silver and is a genuine piece of American history.

The last Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar was made in 1947, shortly after the end of World War II. It was replaced with the Franklin Silver Half Dollar in 1948.

The three coins in this collection are rarely seen. In fact, the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar disappeared from circulation over 55 years ago. What’s more, most coins were worn out or damaged in circulation, leaving just a fraction in collectible quality like those in this collection.

Each coin contains over 1/3 ounce of silver bullion – and millions of coins were melted for the precious silver in 1979-80 when silver reached a record $50.35 an ounce … leaving even fewer coins for today’s collectors.

The last three Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars date from a truly historic era. Here are the highlights of each year:
1945: Marines land on Iwo Jima … President Franklin D. Roosevelt dies … Nazi Germany surrenders … Japan surrenders to bring World War II to an end … the United Nations is founded.
1946: Winston Churchill coins the phrase “iron curtain” … the post-war “baby boom” starts … the Nuremberg trials of Nazi leaders starts … the bikini swimsuit is introduced.
1947: Marshall Plan for European reconstruction starts … Jackie Robinson becomes baseball’s first black player … the U.S. Air Force is established … the term “UFO” is created after a mysterious sighting in Roswell, New Mexico.

The set of the last three Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars is displayed in a custom holder and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Franklin Silver Half Dollar was struck from 1948 until 1963, when it was suddenly replaced with the Kennedy Half Dollar in memory of President John F. Kennedy.  This collection includes one historic coin from each of the three decades of issue – 1940’s, 1950’s, and 1960’s.

The obverse of the Franklin Silver Half Dollar features colonial patriot and inventor Benjamin Franklin.  He was the first real person other than a President to appear on a circulating U.S. coin.  Among his many achievements, Franklin was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

The reverse of the coin shows the Liberty Bell.  According to tradition, this bell was rung to announce the Declaration of Independence to the people of Philadelphia on July 4, 1776.  There is a very small eagle to the right of the bell.  By law, this coin had to show an eagle as the symbol of the United States – but Franklin thought the wild turkey should be the national bird, so out of respect for him the eagle was made very small!

The Franklin Silver Half Dollar was the last coin series made entirely in .900 pure silver.  As a result, each coin in this collection is a rarely-seen silver issue.  Due to the rising cost of silver, millions of these coins were melted over the years – making the few remaining coins even more sought-after.

The first coin will be dated 1948 or 1949 and is therefore guaranteed to be one of the first two years of issue.  The earliest coins in any series are always highly sought after, and this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the earliest Franklin Silver Half Dollars.

The second coin is from the 1950’s and symbolizes one of the most progressive eras in U.S. history.  It was a time characterized by unprecedented economic growth … the start of the space age … “I Like Ike” … the birth of rock ‘n’ roll … and spectacular automobiles.

The third and final coin will be dated from 1960 to 1963 and is therefore one of the final coins in the series.  Like the first coin, the last coins in any coin series are very desirable.

All three coins are increasingly scarce.  They disappeared from circulation over 40 years ago, and together they make a spectacular collection of a long-gone classic American coin series.

The Statue of Liberty Half Dollar was struck by the U.S. Mint in 1986.

The coin was issued to commemorate the statue’s 100th anniversary.

The obverse shows the Statue of Liberty. The reverse features an immigrant family arriving in New York.

This was a limited edition coin made only in 1986, over 20 years ago.

This coin is richly layered in 25-karat gold.

Gold-plated coins were not available from the U.S. Mint, because the U.S. Mint is unable to layer coins in gold.

This coin was privately layered in 24-karat gold.

Just a tiny fraction of all Statue of Liberty Half Dollars were set aside for this special edition.

It is much scarcer than the regular coin.

The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi.

It was given to the United States as a gift from the people of France to celebrate American liberty and freedom.

The framework of the statue was built by Gustave Eiffel, who also built the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The statue was dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on October 28, 1886.

Today, the Statue of Liberty is the world’s greatest symbol of freedom.

There is one coin;  it is .750 copper and .250 nickel bonded to a core of pure copper.

The coin is delivered in custom coin wallet with historical information about the coin and the Statue of Liberty, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.

This was America’s last large-size Dollar coin ever minted for circulation.  It was replaced with the Anthony Dollar in 1979.

The reverse design is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch;  Apollo 11 in 1969 was the first manned mission to the moon.

Regular coins were struck at the U.S. Mints in Philadelphia and Denver.  The coin from Denver is identified by the small “D” mint mark above the date, while the Philadelphia coin bears no mint mark.

The obverse features a portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the World War II hero and U.S. President from 1953-1961.

The reverse is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch;  it shows an American eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth above its head.   The Anthony Dollar was first minted in 1979 and was America’s first small-size Dollar coin.   It was the first circulating coin to feature an identifiable woman.     It depicts Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), the woman’s rights pioneer whose work led to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution that assures women the right to vote.
The reverse is the same as the Eisenhower Dollar.

The Sacagawea Dollar was first minted in 2000 and is America’s first golden coin.   It was the first circulating coin to feature an identifiable Native American.   It depicts Sacagawea, the Native American guide who accompanied the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804-1806 on their quest to find a route to the Pacific Ocean.

The reverse features an American eagle in flight, as well as 17 stars to symbolize the 17 states in the Union in 1804.

This one-year-only design was created for America's Bicentennial in 1976.

The Eisenhower Dollar was America’s last large-size Dollar coin ever minted for circulation.

It was minted only from 1971-1978 and is a treasured piece of American history.

Since the last coin was minted in 1978, it has been replaced with the small-size Anthony Dollar and Sacagawea Golden Dollar - so it is now a long-gone piece of American coinage history that becomes more and more sought after with each passing year.

One 40% silver coin -  minted in an outer layer of .800 silver and .200 copper bonded to an inner core of .209 silver and .791 copper (total composition .400 silver and .600 copper).

1971-1974 Eisenhower Silver Dollar in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The Eisenhower Dollar was America’s last large-size Dollar coin ever minted for circulation.  It was minted only from 1971-1978 and is a treasured piece of American history.   In addition to regular coins for circulation, the U.S. Mint also made a small number of Brilliant Uncirculated coins for collectors in .400 silver.   Standard Eisenhower Dollars for circulation were made in copper-nickel.

The regular silver coins were made only from 1971-1974.

The .400 silver coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition were available only in blue packaging.    As a result, these historic Silver Dollars are known as “Blue Ikes.”    All “Blue Ikes” were struck at the San Francisco Mint and bear the coveted “S” mint mark on the obverse, above the date.

“Blue Ikes” were not released into circulation but were made only for collectors.

The “Blue Ikes” were the first .400 Silver Dollars in history.

The obverse of the coin features Dwight D. Eisenhower, the World War II hero and U.S. President from 1953-1961.

The reverse is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch;  it shows an American eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth above its head.

The coin is in original Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The last “Blue Ike” was available from the U.S. Mint over three decades ago.

1979 Susan B. Anthony Dollars from the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints.

Coins are delivered in a custom display with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Anthony Dollar was first minted in 1979 and was America’s first small-size Dollar coin.   It was also the first circulating coin to feature an identifiable woman.

It depicts Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), the woman’s rights pioneer whose work led to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution that assures women the right to vote.   The reverse is an adaptation of the official Apollo 11 mission patch;  it shows an American eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth above its head.   The coin was struck for just four years between 1979 and 1999.   The first-year 1979 coin was struck at all three U.S. Mints: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco.

This collection includes all three 1979 coins from all three Mints.

These coins were struck almost 30 years ago.

The Anthony Dollar was unpopular with the public because it was too easily confused with the Quarter.

It was the same color and almost the same size as the Quarter.

Ironically, the Anthony Dollar is now one of the most popular U.S. coins.   Due to the short minting period, supplies of Anthony Dollars are limited.

All three coins are in original Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Three coins struck in .750 copper and .250 nickel bonded to an inner core of 1.000 copper.

1979, 1980, and 1981 Susan B. Anthony Dollars from the San Francisco Mint.
Coins are delivered in a custom coin wallet with a Certificate of Authenticity.

In 1979, 1980, and 1981, the coin was struck for circulation (i.e. business strikes) at San Francisco.  These were last three business strike coins ever made at the San Francisco Mint.     Each coin bears the “S” mint mark on the obverse, on the left side just above Anthony’s shoulder.

The San Francisco Mint generally stopped making coins for circulation in 1955.   After that date, it made coins almost exclusively for U.S. Proof Sets.  It also made Lincoln Pennies for circulation until 1974.   This set includes the three “S” mint Anthony Dollars made as business strikes. San Francisco also made Proof Anthony Dollars in these years.     The 1981 coin is the key;  it was available only in Mint Sets, as none were released into circulation.

The 1981 “S” business strike Anthony Dollar is actually rarer than the 1981 “S” coin struck as a Proof.

All three coins are in original Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

The beauty of this first-year-of-issue Golden Sacagawea dollar has been preserved with 24 Karat Gold Plating.
