Very Good To Fine Condition.     Very Scarce!

Even before our independence, the Continental Congress had authorized the printing of our first currency.
There were eleven separate issues dating from May 1775 to January 1779.

Each issue included several different denominations ranging anywhere from $1/6 to $80.

These notes were hand numbered and signed, often by very prominent people of the day including signers of the Declaration Of Independence.
Such notes can often bring hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

The very first notes were printed on paper supplied by Benjamin Franklin!

Issue date and denomination are our choice.

1928 marked the release of the first small size currency (all prior issues were much larger in size).     A minor obverse design change several years later created the 1934 series offered here as an option.

In 1935 the design of the $1 Bill was changed to basically what we have today.

The reverse design on this short lived series was very plain and the notes are affectionately referred to as "funny back" notes because they resemble play money!

Silver certificates were initially redeemable for silver dollars, and later for raw silver bullion only.    After being redeemed the silver certificates were shredded, because they had lost their backing and could not be recirculated unless there was more silver produced.
The price of silver also started rising.  In 1960, it was nearing $1.30 per ounce, which meant that silver dollars were worth more than $1.
This meant that people could receive their silver dollars and melt them down, thereby reducing the amount of silver in circulation,
which was by then already falling.

In March 1964, Secretary of the Treasury C. Douglas Dillon stopped the redemption of Silver Certificates for Silver Dollars.
In the 1970s, large numbers of the remaining silver dollars in the mint vaults were sold to the collecting public for collector value.

All redemption in silver ceased on June 24, 1968.

On December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor - the event that launched the U.S. into World War II.

The U.S. was worried that Hawaii might be overrun by the Japanese and that large amounts of U.S. currency would fall into enemy hands. Therefore, they created a series of emergency bank notes solely for use of residents and troops in Hawaii and the Pacific.

Issued from July 1942- October 1944, the series ended when it became clear that Hawaii was no longer likely to fall to the Japanese.

Each of these 1935A series emergency bills was printed with a brown seal instead of the usual blue seal on Silver Certificates. The word Hawaii is printed on both sides.
The note is protected behind clear acrylic in a display wallet with a story card to explain its uniqueness.

A Certificate Of Authenticity accompanies each note.
Own a special piece of United States history with a rare Emergency WWII North Africa "Yellow Seal" $1 Bill!

When Dwight D. Eisenhower started the "Operation Torch" campaign against German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel (the "Desert Fox") in North Africa in November 1942, the U.S. troops carried unique currency with them.

Each of these 1935A series emergency bills was printed with a yellow seal instead of the usual blue seal on Silver Certificates.

If these bills fell into enemy hands, they would have simply been demonetized and made worthless.

The one-time issue in 1942 was used again in the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943.

Each $1 North Africa note is in Fine or better condition and will still retain some of its original crispness and will be free of detractions such as holes and tears!
