Dolphin Information
The Replica 3D Dolphin Collection includes all 40 of the
world's Dolphin Species. Dolphins are considered whales and are
part of the Cetacean order.
Cetaceans are divided into two major groups or suborders, each containing one
or more smaller groups, called families.
In all there are 13 families of Cetaceans and they contain a total of about 76
different species of whales (about half of these are Dolphins and Porpoises).
The two major suborders are
Mysteceti (Baleen Whales) and Odontoceti (Toothed Whales).
The Bottlenose Dolphin is from the family Delphinidae of the suborder
Odontoceti.
Dolphins are mammals, i.e. they are
warm-blooded like us.
They need to breathe air, they have a very high intelligence level, they
breastfeed their young, and give birth to their young live under water.
The Bottlenose Dolphin is probably the most well-known of all Dolphins,
largely due to it’s ready adaptability to captivity.
